What is postsecondary education?

Postsecondary education is the part of the educational system that takes place after high school. It can be at a college or university, or at another kind of postsecondary institution such as a trade school, technical college, community college, and so on. Postsecondary education is also known as tertiary education.

A postsecondary degree helps ensure more job opportunities and higher salaries than without one. There are many different types of postsecondary education that are available to students who want to continue their education after high school. For example, apprenticeships provide hands-on training for a specific job or trade. Certificate programs teach technical skills that are typically associated with a specific career path. And an associate degree program can prepare you for transfer to a four-year college or university for bachelor’s degree study in the same field.

There are many reasons to attend post-secondary education. According to the US Bureau of Labor Statistics, people with at least some college experience earn 56% more than those with only high school degrees.
