What is a mid-term?

A mid-term is a standardized test that falls in the middle of an academic school year. It’s often used to help determine how well students are performing academically, and it can also be registered as credit hours for certain classes.

The midterm can be given during different times and places, depending on how it’s planned by the professor or assigned to students for their exams.

Mid-terms are often used to assess students’ progress, particularly at the high school level where grades can affect admission into college or university programs, scholarships, or awards for post-secondary education; they may also be imposed as sanctions for bad behavior (e.g., suspension).
